As you will be aware, Australia is now facing a potential epidemic of the COVID 19 outbreak. The virus has quickly spread to over 130 countries worldwide and infection in Australia is growing. The COVID 19 outbreak has the potential to spread rapidly amongst the community if, as a community, we don’t act.
Mackellar Care Services is closely monitoring the situation and is staying informed with communication from the Department of Health and state government authorities.
Whilst over 80% of people contracting the virus will only experience mild flu like symptoms, the virus presents as a major health risk to those over the age of 65 years and people with existing illnesses that can impact the severity of the infection. It has been identified that the following conditions can have an impact on the virus’ severity and recovery:
- Cardiac Disease or impairments
- Pulmonary conditions
- Immune Deficiency
At Mackellar Care Services our focus as always is the health and wellbeing of our residents and staff, this includes our Independent Living Unit residents. If you are feeling unwell and experiencing any of the following symptoms, it is recommended that you consult your General Practitioner:
- Dry and persistent cough
- Runny nose
- Sore throat
I acknowledge that many of our ILU residents assist us as volunteers and the support is greatly appreciated, however, if you are feeling unwell or feel that you have been in close contact with anyone that may be unwell, I ask that you not attend the Aged Care facilities.
Mackellar Care Services has implanted robust measures to ensure that our most vulnerable people are protected from this or any other form of infection, however, we do need the support of the general community especially during this time.
If you have any concerns for your own welfare or health, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Jodie Parkes via reception on 6741 5400.
